Laxalt And Cruz Join To Campaign In Henderson

Republican senator Ted Cruz from Texas got together with GOP candidate Adam Laxalt in criticizing the Nevada senior senator at a campaign rally which was held in Henderson on Friday.

Speaking to an applausive crowd of around 140 people at the Sun City Anthem Center Ballroom, Cruz said “Nevada is at the very front of the battle to take this country back,” adding that he was there “because I’m supporting my friend, Adam Laxalt.”

Laxalt describes his attempts to unseat Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of the Democratic party as an effort to turn the evenly spread Senate onto the Republican side, and stressed the support that Cruz and he have at this time from former President Trump.

Laxalt has served as co-chairman of the 2020 Trump campaign held in Nevada, and some time back even led failed legal challenges of Democratic President Biden’s success in the swing state.

Cruz has been vocal when it comes to mocking and deriding Biden, and even joined Laxalt in connecting Cortez Masto to one of the key campaign issues facing the GOP primary, which is the price of Gasoline. According to Cruz, the prices are not tied to the war in Ukraine, but to the president’s administration policies and campaign promises. “When you go fill up your truck and it’s 100 bucks or 150 bucks,” he noted, “when a mom today, coming home from school fills up her minivan and it’s 150 bucks to do it. That’s hurting people in this state. It’s hurting people across the country.”

Olivia Davis, Democratic Victory rep in Nevada, has tried to draw attention to Laxalt’s work ever since he lost the 2018 bid for Governor’s seat in Nevada. She pointed to his connection to a D.C. law firm which handles clients including a major oil company which reaps profits from high gas prices. “While Nevadans are paying high gas prices at the pump, Adam Laxalt has tried to blame everyone but his D.C. law firm’s big oil clients for rising prices,” Davis opined.

During the rally, Laxalt has kept from mentioning his primary opponent Sam Brown, who is a Reno businessman and an army veteran.

Laxalt alongside Cruz made stops in northern Nevada on Thursday, where the former criticized, among other things, Cortez Masto’s position on border security and coronavirus policies. Both Cortez Masto and Laxalt have served in the capacity of Nevada attorney general, with Laxalt having made law enforcement one of his campaign’s main themes.

Cortez Masto’s campaign aide Sigalle Reshef on Friday issued a response, stating that the former “has worked with Republicans to deliver billions of dollars in border security funding”, as well as led efforts in support of Nevada law enforcement.

With no primary challenger, Cortez Masto has a higher than 5-to-1 advantage when it comes to campaign funds which she can spend, over either GOP candidate.
